The 2400 sft site is located in Gundelpet, a small town bordering Mysore. The design for this three bedroom house draws from the changing conditions of this rural town, here traditional homes are making way for city and media inspired dwellings. The design critically acknowledges the multi dimensional value of a traditional courtyard and uses this strategy to organize spaces. Here we anticipated the flexible use of courtyard spaces to vitalize their day to day living experience. The design also recasts commonly found traditional materials like terra-cotta tiles and wood while combining it with the materials of modernity, concreteand steel to create new tactile experiences that resonates with memory of the place and the idea of newness simultaneously.
