The intention here was to create a positive experience within the house underscored by blurring of boundaries between inside and the outside. Apart from other requirements, the brief defined a need for a sloped roof and this became a critical factor influencing our design process. The idea for the roof explored a single sloped surface that modulated the volume within the house to accommodate vaastu concerns and a variety of spaces while generating spatial richness. The design process was akin to origami technique of scoring and folding that finally resulted in a roofscape that could be read as augmented terrain connecting with the surroundings. The folding of the roof responds to the spatial pattern of built and unbuilt which is a result of the intention of blurring the edge between the garden and the house.
